FlightGear is an open-source flight simulator. Supports various popular platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) and developed by skilled volunteers from around the world. The purpose of the project FlightGear is to create a framework for flight simulators sophisticated and open for use in research or academic environments, pilot training, as an engineering tool industry, for DIY-ers to pursue a favorite idea of flight simulation that interests them, and last but certainly not least as fun, realistic, and challenging the desktop flight simulator. Developing an advanced open simulation framework that can be expanded and improved upon by anyone interested in contributing.
There are many exciting possibilities for an open, free flight sim. The project is interesting and useful many people in many areas. Source code for the entire project is available and licensed under the GNU General Public License.
- mark the correct runway and placement, correct runway and approach lighting.
- Over 20,000 real world airports included in the full scenery set.
- Sloping runways (runways change elevation like they usually do in real life.)
- Taxiways available for many larger airports (even including the green center line lights when appropriate.)
- Directional airport lighting that smoothly changes intensity as the relative change in outlook towards you.
- The view of the world according to the three DVDs. But that means we have pretty detailed coverage of the entire world.
- accurate terrain worldwide, based on data SRTM area's most recently released.) 3 arc second resolution (about 90m post spacing) for North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
- Vmap0 scenery includes all lakes, rivers, roads, railroads, cities, towns, land cover, etc.
- tile scenery paged (loaded / unloaded) in a separate thread to minimize the frame rate hit when you need to load new areas.
- Nice scenery night lighting with ground lighting concentrated in urban areas (based on real maps) and headlights visible on major highways. This allows for realistic night VFR flying with the ability to see the towns and cities and follow roads.
The new one:
- increase modularization
- Atmospheric Light Scattering
- Improved performance, reduced memory occupancy
- usefulness
- A new tool that allows in-sim joystick configuration, making it easier for new users to configure their joystick as they want and fly!
- The Nasal Console has been enhanced to support copy / paste, making development easier Nasal script.
- About dialog now includes additional information system, and the ability to copy information to the clipboard, making remote diagnosis user problems faster and easier.
- Options Select service now displays an overhead view of the airport is selected, which allows users to view their new location, and makes it easier to choose a runway or parking the correct position.
- In-sim checklist has been introduced to a number of planes.
- An in-sim browser documentation is included, so users can more easily explore all of the documentation provided in the base package.
- Internationalization
- The FlightGear Manual is now included in English and French.
- messaging system at startup is available in eight languages, such as in-sim menu.
