Doom, a science fiction / horror-themed video game, has a background that is given in game instruction manuals; the rest of the story is advanced with short messages displayed between each part of the game (called the episode), acts as the player character progresses through levels, and some visual cues.
Players take on the role of marine space unnamed ( "Doomguy") that have been punitively posted to Mars after attacking his commander, who ordered his unit to fire on civilians. Space seabed Mars acts as collateral for the Union Aerospace Corporation, a multi-planetary conglomerate, which conducts secret experiments with teleportation by creating gateways between the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos. manual makes clear that Phobos is considered by space marines be a tedious task imaginable: "With no action for fifty million miles, your day consisted of suckin 'dust and watchin' restricted movies in the common room." This all changes when UAC experiment gone horribly wrong. Computer systems on Phobos malfunction, Deimos disappears entirely, and "something fragging evil" starts pouring out of the gate, kill or have all UAC personnel.
Responding to an emergency call panic from the overrun scientists, the Martian marine unit quickly sent to Phobos to investigate, in which the player's character is left to guard the hangar with only a pistol while the rest of the group in the results. Over the next few hours, maritime hears assorted garbled radio messages, gunfire, and screams, followed by silence: "Looks like your friends are dead."
Note: This game is for DOS and to play it on a computer with a newer version of Windows you will need to 'emulator' DOS as D-fend Reloaded.
Installation:
Download and install the D-fend Reloaded.
Click on the Download Now button above.
Extracting the contents of the zip file to a folder and remember the way.
D-Fend Reloaded, go to File-> Import> Import Folder and choose the folder where the extracted game.
Still in D-Fend Reloaded select the game you want to play and press the 'Run'.
