In order to run Windows 8, PC or laptop must have a 1GHz or faster processor. Obviously, as with all computers, a better processor will lead to improved overall experience. In most cases, Windows 8 laptops and PCs will run on AMD or - more likely - Intel processors, especially the Core i3, i5 and i7. Intel Ivy Bridge processor, launched in April 2012, and they offer a more efficient power consumption, and therefore must run well in a thin and light system.
Microsoft also will release a version of Windows that can run on ARM SOC (system on chip) processors. Windows RT is intended for portable devices, and should not be confused with desktop and laptop versions of the main Windows 8.
Windows 8 system requirements:
- 1GHz or faster processor
- RAM 1GB (32bit) or 2GB (64bit)
- The graphics card Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device or higher
- 20 GB of hard disk space (64bit) or 16GB (32bit)
