There are two methods that can be done to determine whether you are running a version of Windows 8 32-bit or 64-bit. If one method does not work, try the other way.
Method 1: View System window in Control Panel
- Scroll from the right corner of the screen, then tap Search. Or, if you're using a mouse, point to the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click Search.
- Type in the search box, and then tap or click Settings.
- Tap or click System.
- If you are running a version of Windows 8 64-bit, 64-bit Operating System is displayed in the Type field in the system under the heading System. If you are running a version of Windows 8 32-bit, 32-bit Operating System is displayed in the Type field in the system under the heading System.
Method 2: View System Information window
- Scroll from the right corner of the screen, then tap Search. Or use the mouse, point to the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click Search.
- In the search box, type in the information system.
- Tap or click System, tap or click System Information, and then click System Summary.
- If you are running a version of Windows 8 64-bit, x64-based PC is displayed in the Type field in the system under the heading Item.
If you are running a version of Windows 8 32-bit, x86-based PC is displayed in the Type field in the system under the heading Item.
